Holy Moly, meet the Haenyo - South Korea’s last generation of fearless 'sea women' divers. Every single one of those 70+ year-old ladies swim to depths of 65ft to the ocean floor where they collect sea abalones, urchins, sea cucumbers and squid. Furthermore, none of them use oxygen tanks as they are known to hold their breath for over two minutes at a time, while diving in the freezing cold waters of the Korea Strait. Impressive, isn't it?
Mijoo Kim thought so too, so earlier this year, she flew in to visit them and documented a day of their work. I can't imagine a better way to show how those strong women carry on a Korean legacy, as the last followers of this time-old tradition.
P.S: Flower man and this.
P.P.S: We're lucky!
